Streamlining printer deployment and management

controlled printing groups

As a print management provider to a large number of schools and districts across the US, we know that limited resources, multi-vendor device fleets, and enabling secure printer access to support a myriad of end-user needs, are among the top print challenges for IT leads.

That’s why we built the directprint.io serverless print management platform from the ground up to enable our users to seamlessly deploy, secure, control, and track print in the cloud.

In this blog, we’ll explore five key features designed to simplify printer deployment for IT and ensure the right people have access to the right printers, at the right time.

Device Radar

The Device Radar tool utilizes multicast DNS (mDNS) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to automatically locate and identify all printers on the network. This eliminates the tedious task of manual printer discovery, saving IT administrators valuable time. In addition, in-built artificial intelligence further streamlines the printer deployment process by configuring individual devices’ best-known configuration and enabling advanced finishing features like stapling and folding where available.

Directory integrations

directprint.io enables streamlined printer provisioning through directory sync capabilities with Google Workspace and Microsoft Azure AD. End-users are automatically assigned printers based on their login, providing them with instant access to the correct list of available printers and advanced model-specific finishing options upon machine startup. For IT leads, applying print privileges or constraints on OUs, groups, or devices, is a straightforward task, and the platform automatically adjusts printer access when end-users are created, moved, or deleted.

And for customers not currently on Azure AD or Google Workspace, directprint.io features a proprietary internal directory which provides all of the same benefits. By downloading the directprint.io application and clicking an invite link, end-users are signed in and automatically gain access to allocated/available printers, which significantly
reduces IT workload.

Universal Print Driver

The directprint.io universal print driver can be easily installed through Google Workspace Admin, Microsoft Intune/PQD, or any preferred Mobile Device Management (MDM) tool.

This full-stack universal print driver supports zero-touch deployment at scale, simplifying end-user provisioning and ongoing management. Gone are the days of dealing with individual print driver downloads and updates – it’s all taken care of. Plus, it includes configurable advanced finishing options such as staple, fold etc. across all printers,
ensuring a seamless, consistent print experience, regardless of the printer brand or brands you choose.

QuickCodes

School and district IT admins can also deploy printers to users with directprint.io QuickCodes. QuickCodes allow users to self-serve by entering the QuickCode into the directprint.io client application. And our Dynamic QuickCode feature gives administrators greater control over the distribution of and validity periods for QuickCodes.

Actionable insights

IT admins benefit from complete visibility of all print activity on the network from a single pane of glass. From analyzing cost per-side and per-page data, to producing reports that breakdown stats by individual, printer, department etc. directprint.io automates the time- intensive manual tasks associated with maintaining a print environment further reducing support time.

Our mission is to make printing easy. We believe that printing should be reliable, powerfulcand easy to administer. Plus, our cost-effective subscription model is flexible and allows you to scale up or down as needed.
